The Department of Natural Resource Sciences at McGill University operates a number of cold rooms and incubators to conduct various experiments involving effects of soil characteristics and conditions on various animal and plant parameters.

Maintenance of chamber temperatures at specific values is critical to these experiments. Before employing the MiniGooseXP II, researchers had lost multiple experiments when the incubators had malfunctioned. The incubators had overheated, killing colonies of moths and worms used in experiments involving nanoparticles. When the problem was identified, it was already too late as the colonies had died from desiccation. This resulted in a significant loss of technician and student time and effort.

By installing the MiniGooseXP II, the department has been able to monitor chamber temperatures remotely using the web interface and by setting alerts sent to various email addresses in case temperature and other thresholds are exceeded. Since then, researchers have been able to respond rapidly to potentially harmful temperature fluctuations.

Logo Need to install multiple units? Save the hassle of configuring each unit individually
With our Series II Climate Monitors, users can configure multiple units with similar Goose-sensor combinations with great ease. Simply configure one unit setting the alarms, alerts, actions, display options, email and SNMP configurations and click the "Download Current XML File" button. Users may use this XML file as a backup of the configuration and as a template that can be used to clone the same configuration to another host.

Once the XML file has been downloaded, it can be opened using any text editor to view and modify the IP address and other information if necessary and uploaded into additional Goose units using the "Upload Local XML File" option. It is important to note that the cloning process works only when the same Goose and sensor combinations are used and sensors must be installed in the same order as the initial setup. If the Goose-sensor combination is different but you want to retain the other configurations, simply delete the device information from the XML file before uploading to new unit. It takes just minutes to configure each additional unit after the initial setup.

The RelayGoosePOE II combines climate monitoring with remote relay control. The device allows users to trigger external devices automatically in response to an alarm in addition to receiving e-mail alerts and SNMP traps. For example, an auto-dialer may be triggered to call the appropriate facilities personnel over the phone and play a prerecorded message, ensuring they receive the alarm notification even if a failure in the facility's internal network or Internet connection prevents the Goose from sending e-mails or SNMP traps. Likewise, a flashing or rotating strobe light may be connected to make it easy for a technician to quickly determine which rack(s) need assistance. A larger relay or contactor may also be controlled which, in turn, energizes or de-energizes a piece of equipment such as a secondary cooling fan or backup a/c unit. The possibilities are endless.

The RelayGoosePOE II comes with a built-in temperature sensor, LCD display, buzzer, 6 analog inputs, 4 digital sensor ports and 3 dry-contact relay outputs. It supports up to 16 remote digital sensors using splitters. Live video feeds, data logs, and graphs are accessible through a secure web interface.

Logo Humidity Sensors Now Provide Dew Point Readings & Alarms
The latest firmware upgrades for Series I and Series II units enable our humidity sensors to provide dew point readings in addition to the relative humidity. Dew point is the temperature at which water vapor leaves the air and appears on objects as liquid water. Water vapor will only condense onto another surface when that surface is cooler than the dew point temperature, so it is important to keep dew point well below the temperature to prevent condensation on internal computer components. Users may now set thresholds and alarms for dew point.
